Seasoning Your Cast Iron
Preheat your oven to 250
Clean the pan so that there is no food debris on the cooking surface
Dry off with a towel as best as possible
Place in preheated oven for 20min to allow any remaining moisture to evaporate
After the time is complete, apply a thin coat of oil (I use canola) to the interior and exterior of the pan.
Place back in the oven for 20 min.
After the time is complete wipe all excess oil from the pan. The pan should look matte with a very slight gloss.
Place your pan back in the oven and bump the heat to 450. Set a timer for 1 hour 20 min.
After the seasoning is complete, turn off the oven and allow the pans to cool inside the oven.
*** seasoning will create a smoky smell in your home. Be sure to open a window and run a fan if possible. There may also be visible smoke for a portion of the time. You should never see fire while seasoning a pan. If you see fire turn off your oven and keep the oven door closed. Treat the fire as you would in any other emergency.
